Why therapy
Individuals chose to start therapy for a variety of reasons. Some have been thinking about making the call for a long time. For others it was suggested by a family member or recommended by a physician. There are situations where there is a specific problem or focus, such as dealing with the death of a loved one. There are other times that an individual wants to explore more general issues, such as complications in relationships. Additionally, there are those that are looking for treatment for just a few sessions and others that may feel that they need something longer.
In my opinion, therapy is a mutual process where we develop a plan to benefit each person's unique situation. There are those individuals who are hoping to learn skills to cope with a particular problem, manage their mood, or receive education on topics such as parenting. Others may be more interested in discussing certain conflicts and having a non-judgmental objective view on the topic.
